It’s construction is linked to the birth and development of the Battuti Brotherhood whose presence dates back to the early 1300s. The foundation of the hospital situated alongside the church also dates back to the brotherhood. The building has a smooth hut-like façade with central oculus with a single room. The interior was decorated between the fourteenth and fifteenth century with a first cycle of frescos. At the beginning of the 1500s, it underwent a restoration that changed its appearance considerably in addition to creating new paintings inside that can still be seen today (episodes from the life of St. Catherine and scenes from Christ’s passion). The hospital continued to function until the beginning of the 1900s when the new town hospital was built.
