The sub-portico of the Buranelli is one of the most characteristic views of Treviso, flanks the Buranelli canal, branch of the Botteniga river. It flows placid and slow under the houses in the historical center, it emerges at times and then flows into the river Sile, a resurgence river that rises in the province of Treviso and is the longest resurgence river in Europe. The Buranelli constitute a residential and commercial complex built in the sixteenth century, which housed the fishermen who from the island of Burano brought the lagoon fish to Treviso, going up the Sile. The fish market was located on the square of Monte di Pietà since the Middle Ages, near the Beccherie (butchers’ shops), before being moved to the island of Pescheria from 1856..
