Christian Mosaic

Around the second half of the 1900s, during the restoration of the old rectory house, a mosaic floor dating to the IV century B. C. was discovered. Speculations make reference to a Christian baptistery. The flooring has a circular shape divided into bands. In the first one, there are maritime elements such as a fish, a synonym for Christianity, the second band has grape vines and the harvest, another symbol of the Christian religion, in the following order there are; birds, a peacock, Eros on a ladder harvesting. Finally, the last band has a frame with dolphins around a trident, symbolizing the cross. There is no doubt of the Paleochristian origin of this fascinating find.
