TO REMEMBER, INTERPRET AND UNDERSTAND THE EVENT THAT CHANGED MEN AND THEIR TERRITORIES, OUR CONTEMPORARY’S ROOT ON WHICH TO BUILD THE GREAT VALUE OF PEACEMontebelluna is crossroad of the itineraries of the Great War in the Veneto RegionLocated at the foot of Montello in the foothills on the slopes of Monte Grappa and at the mouth of the Piave in the Veneto plain, it is in a central position with respect to the Venetian areas marked by the First World War.The “Battle of the Solstice” took place in Montello in June 1918, and it was the decisive battle that marked the fate and the end of the war.The new Memorial inside the restored Villa Correr PisaniThe headquarter: Villa Correr PisaniA careful restoration gives new life to Villa Correr PisaniThe Villa is located at the foot of Montello. It was built on the first half of the XVII century for the will of the noble venetian family Correr, it was then sold to the Doge Pisani.The Villa has known alternate events, transformation and interventions that have brought it to grandiose and luxurious dimensions and it was enriched over time with works of art, fountains and gardens. During both the two World Wars, it was used as a military hospital, and after the end of the Second World War the Villa started its slow and continuous path of decay.The restoration project will allow the Villa to be restored to its original grandeur, so it could be destined to host the new Memorial of the Great War.External areas have a surface of 5500 square meters, with parking and planting of native species and new lighting.A contemporary MemorialThe new Memorial is a real-life space that was born inside an historical building, Villa Pisani, where the virtual pats of interpretation and networking become the engine of a cultural and social growth of the territory.The Memorial is located on the ground and first floor of the complex and it will occupy an exhibition area of more than 2300 square meters, set up according to flexibility and multimedia criteria.The Memorial propose a new view of the relationship between war and environment, landscapes and the men who were the main characters – in relation to the scientific and organizational power deployed by state apparatuses – even more for interpretations and knowledge of our present, by discounting an event that could not be delivered to an ended era because its consequences have determined the contemporaneity. After one hundred years the Memorial proposed itself as a living and conscious memory that leads everyone to make an experience of the “apocalypse of modernity” – which at the same time is also a lucid and emotional path.In addition, the exhibition explain the technique at the service of military actions and told the lives of soldiers during the Great War and the Memorial also expose their innovations, evolutions and consequences. Multimedia, accessibility and integrationThe design of the new Memorial foresees the application of new museolological and museographic practices that will constitute an effective tool for information and involvement, that will allow the construction of a contemporary cultural space. The communication will be differentiated and calibrated for the different target of users in relation to the different learning styles of each person.The Memorial proposed itself as a privileged place for the cultural integration. People from all over the world took part in the Great War and this is an event of shares history from which a cultural dialogue of mutual knowledge and confrontation can arise, which lead to a shared concept of peace value.
