TEXT PIAZZA DEL POPOLO

PIAZZA DEL POPOLO, the square was realized after the founding of the town in 1866 with the unification of Ceneda and Serravalle. The architect Giovanni De Min made the square and the new public gardens. In the middle of the square, there was a statue of the king Vittorio Emanuele II and one of Garibaldi at the public gardens, replaced by two fountains in 1936 according to the will of the “Podestà” Camillo De Carlo. At the end of the square, the War Memorial of the sculpture Augusto Murer reminds the main moments of the Italian history. In front of that, the Municipality built in 1872 with the project of the engineer Gabelli. The four high poles takes the motto of the city “Victoria nobis vita”.
