Porta Altinia

Altinia Gate was the first gate ever built in Treviso. It was built between 1513-14 by the high official Sebastiano Moro. It was named this way due to the fact that refugees from the nearby city of Altino came through this gate when their city was destroyed by Attila the Hun.It’s very different from the other two gates: it kept the austere look of a gate-tower from the 1300s. From the inside of the wall there is almost no trace that there’s an actual entrance to the city, it almost looks like a residential palace. On the external facade it’s very clear that is a tower, with its bricks and string-course made of stone, which pinpoints the original defensive terrace that used to sit there to protect the entrance.
