PORTRAIT OF LETIZIA RAMOLINO BONAPARTE
Inspired by models taken from ancient Rome, in the work, the old woman is represented smiling sitting comfortably in a Greek chair with a cushion. The chair rests, in turn, on a hollow trunk while the woman’s head is made frontal, the arms are folded on the lap and legs crossed on a footrest in a rotary movement that breaks the linearity of the pose, creating a feeling of naturalness very far from the rigidity of classical statuary.
What characterizes the sculpture is the lively, engaging expression of the mother of the French general who gives a smile of understanding to the spectator and the richly draped dress that makes the softness and flexibility of the sculpture.
