TEXT SANCTUARY OF SANTA AUGUSTA
The Sanctuary situated on the top of Mount Marcantone, protects the remains of Santa Augusta. According to the legend, Augusta was the daughter of the Goth king Matrucco. Her own father martyred her with fire, wheel and sword because of her Christian faith. The place was part of an old fortification system. To reach the top, follow the monumental stairs and the path that winds between a thick vegetation. Along the path, we can see seven oratories built by the citizens of Serravalle to honor the Saint.
